ok i have a black acoustic mohogany fender that ive been told that i have to keep in a certain type of hard case, but i keep it in a roadrunner soft cloth case. should i have it in a hard case? oh, by the way how old are you anyway, if you don’t mind answer that question… i hope that you can help me. i’m a brand new guitar player and i am teaching myself with a guitar book.
Will taking off a new refinish job that utilized Urethane restore the tone quality of a vintage Martin guitar?
Also what would it run to take off the Urethane and replace with a less tone invasive product.
Would simply taking the new refinish down to minimal coverage, help with the tone restoration itself?
It is possible that the Poly finish is “capping” the sound. There is a reason why fine guitar builders use nitrocellulose lacquer. Taking some of the finish down should help the overall tone of the guitar. Refinishing a Martin style guitar is a good bit of work as the guitar should be disassembled to do the refinishing. Refinishing a poly finished Martin guitar would run about $950.
