Bill,
SS Stewart was a brand that was made by Harmony here in the early 20th Century. You see some of these guitars around the Chicago area and they are mostly pretty nice guitars. One of the guys in my shop owned a large model arch-top and it was a pretty nice guitar. Try going to this web site at http://harmony.demont.net/brands.php?id_brand=33
If you want to shoot an email, my email address is thirdcoastguitar@ameritech.net. As far as repairing it, we would need to see it. It usually isn’t something you can just shoot glue into and clamp. Most of the time, the guitar neck would need to be removed and reset, but I would like to see it first. See you then!
Hi Chris;
I received your name from Andy, AC Guitar Repair in Evenston, IL.
He said you might be able to help me or give me some advise.
I have an electric Hawaiilan lap steel guitar that I haven’t played for over fifty years. I would like to have it refinished, restored, strings replaced, and a broken tuning knob replaced.
Can you tell me if this is something you can do for me and a ballpark on what it might cost?
I will awaite your reply by email?
Thank you,
Robert G. Davidson
Robert,
I would imagine the tuners would need replacing (often the old Klusons do) and the guitar refinished and perhaps rewired. Look to spend about $650 I would imagine, sight unseen. Can you bring the guitar by sometime for us to take a look??
Hello chris.. My name is Eliud Gonzalez I’m from Texas. Two clients of yours and friends of mine recommended me to you : Ricky Muñoz and Felix Salinas (Intocable) Well I own a Yamaha BBN5A in amber burst. It’s a long story but I would really want to have paint job re done and back to original as it was from stock.. I’m guessing previous owner had someone do tiger stripes in the clear coat done to it and I would like to change that. There is also something wrong with either pickups or pre amps on my bass. I have pictures of my Yamaha bbn5a Amber burst and The Yamaha bbn5a in amber burst that I would love my bass guitar to look like. I really hope you can help me with this. I’ve really been looking to do this For a long time…Thank you chris!

Eliud,
We can sure do that for you. Refinishing it to original should be no problem as long as we have good photos of the basses original finish. Most refins like that would run around $700. Do you have photos you could share? You can send me emails directly to thirdcoastguitar@gmail.com
Thanks Chris! Most definetly have good enough pictures. Well i hope they’re good enough hehe….. I’ll send them right away. Thanks again
Hi Chris,
After the superb fiesta red refin you did on my Tele, I now have a Gibson ES-340 I am thinking of getting refinished as well. It is a natural finish and the factory finish is showing every year of its age and then some. I am looking to have it stripped down and redone in natural again. What would be an estimate for the cost of the work ?
Thanks again,
Dave
Dave,
No problem and it should be a pretty painless job. Look to spend about $650.
Chris:
I recently pick up a Harmony Sovereign H1260 which needs a neck reset. This model has a pinless bridge, which I’d like to keep. Been checking around the internet, and it appears all neck resets on these guitars seem to require the addition of a pinned bridge. Is it possible to reset this neck and keep the original bridge?
Thanks,
Len
Len,
We have done neck resets on several of those guitars without changing the bridge. It may be easier with a pin bridge, but you can keep the original bridge if you want. We often re-slot the bridge so the saddle slot is deeper as the pinless bridges have a shallow saddle slot. It seems strange to me that people would say you can’t do it! How did they set the necks on the guitars in the factory if it can’t be done??
Hey Chris,
I dropped my old Peavey VTM 60 off at your shop today for repair…..I was in heaven the 5 minutes I was up there….what an awesome place.
Anyway, I also have a Cortez Les Paul…..I’m told it’s a Japanese Ibanez Lawsuit LP produced under a different name during litigation, but I cannot find any confirmation online. Do you have any knowledge of a Cortez Les Paul copy?
Albert
Thanks Albert! It is a pretty cool place. As far as the Cortez guitars, I don’t know much more than they were made in Japan and they are fantastic values. They don’t have a ton of monetary value but they are really good playing guitars. I did find this on the internet, so take a look
