Brad I have an egnater rebel 30. I absolutely love this amp but was wondering what a JJ retube and bias would do. Also if there is some way of adding an internal boost. I run an outboard pedal for boost now and it works but if I could get it out of the head it would simplify my pedalboard a little. Thanks for the help!
John,
The JJ tubes will tighten up the sound and be a bit more aggressive. As far as adding a boost, I would have to take a look at the amps schematic. These are not really build for modding but I am sure there is a work around to add a clean boost.
Thanks Chris. I’m picking up my Taylor next week. I was going to ask you about it today but you were busy;). Maybe I can bring it with me to let you get a look at it. Also going to bring a les paul that needs a great set up like you guys are famous for! Thanks again my 93 strat ultra is playing better than new. Awesome as usual!
Chris. I bought a 60s les paul reissue. The p90s have the worst 60 cycle I’ve ever heard. I’ve had p90s and know they are temperamental. I’m looking to replace them with something quieter. Wanted your opinion because there are way too many options. Was leaning toward emg actives. I don’t know how that would effect amp and effect settings. I don’t want to change my rig for one guitar. The other guitars all have passive pickups. Thanks for the help and when the Taylor is done I’ll drop it off.
John,
The EMGs are very good and super quiet, but they are pretty different in terms of output. They will be a good bit louder and cleaner for sure. Lindy Fralin makes a very good P90 hum canceling pickup and Joe Barden has a very nice set as well.
Dropped off my egnator rebel 30 at guitar center, highland park. The effects loop has a foul buzz. Spoke with the egnator staff, who recommended checking the pre-amp tube for the loop? just passing this on as an FYI. thanks.
FOr a most traditional sound, I prefer the Lindy Fralin P90s. If your a little more adventurous, and you want something a little beefier, I really like the Rio Grande Bar Pack.

I have a Gibson Les Paul Tv yellow junior copy, what P90 pickup would give it a real vintage junior gibson sound? Thanks.
