Hi, I have a Dr. Z Prescription Head that has an attached power chord and I’d like to modify it to have a detachable power chord. Let me know if that is work you would take on and approx. how much it would run. Thanks,
Leo
Sorry it took me a week to get back to you. The amps guys say that it should be about 1-1.5 hours worth of work ($75 per hour) and the part should run about $10. If you want basic amp maintenance, add another .5-1.0 hours. Hope that helps
I have a Gorilla amp that I WAS going to throw out (am picking up a new Fender amp today). There is at least one bad POT and possibly a bad connector where the guitar plugs in. Considering that, how much to repair? If I brought it in would you give me an estimate? Thanks. Note I found your website due to my desire to have my Les Paul re-finished….
Mark,
Most minor amp repair like that runs between $45 and $75 plus the parts (usually around $10 or so). We do have a minimum bench charge to look at the amp (that is $45). What were you thinking about as far as refinishing your Les Paul?
Was wondering if you do Mod work to amps?? I have a Crate V33 that I need mod’s done on.. I have All the components needed for said “SLO 100″ mod & The lay-out & Schematics for the mod.. I’m in need of a new amp tech .. last one fried out on scrip meds & roached my last rig.. had to let him go ! LOL
I have a Fender Blues Deville 4×10,Mexico model, whick has a flabby bottom low esstring just flabs out an any guitar. Can you remedy this and if so how much will it cost? i have a two twelve made in usa in the 90s shich sounds much better. P.S I have already done all the tube substitutions possible at each position the cleanest sounding sub is the AU7 but the amp looses all its gain.
Thanks much
John
Hi, I have a 1966 Ampeg Gemini I that’s had this problem where the C on the E or A string tends to buzz obnoxiously if it’s hit hard when the amp is turned up. I’ve had this problem with multiple guitars and in different rooms. Is this something that can be fixed with basic maintenance, or is it a more extensive repair? Estimates on the cost? Thanks, John
John,
That is always a hard one to diagnose with out having the amp on the bench. It could be a bad speaker that only reacts to certain frequencies, it could be a bad solder joint or a power problem. We really need to look at it. Most amp repairs run between $75-125 plus parts. Bring it by so we can open it up!
Hi,
I’ve got a Vox night train that I had modified by Jewel Amps (changed the tubes and added an effects loop). It was working great and then during a rehearsal one day it just starts humming extremely loud. It would occasionally start working again after a few tweeks but now it’s stuck humming- no guitar coming through anymore. Thoughts?

Caleb,
That could be so many different things it is impossible to say without cracking it open. If you want to bring it by the shop, we can have the amp guys take a look.
i have been looking to purchase a fender prosonic. from everything i have read they have a parallel effects loop that drops the volume and sounds bad (again, this is just what i have read). i use my effects loop a lot, is there a way you can make the prosonic’s effects loop usable (make it serial?)? might have to look at a supersonic if not. i read there are a number of other mods that are popular on the prosonic, but this concerns me the most.
thank you for your time
cory davis
Brad (my amplifier dept manager) says he should be able to do it, but he would need to read up. I didn’t see any info on that mod. Have you located any info on it?
I got a JCm800 clone that I built during the summer, it didn’t work at all, so I rewired it and it still doesn’t work, It turns on the standby also turns on but the tubes will not glow and all of the tubes are brand new, I’m wondering what could be done to it to get this thing working I invested like $600 into building it and I’d like to turn in on and have it function properly.
Unfortunately, I am not sure without opening it up and looking at it. If you want to bring it in, we can have one of our amp techs go through it and give you a call.
How much is a JJ re-tube and bias on an egnater rebel 30?
We don’t keep the JJs in stock but I can order them. With tube cost and labor it would be about &198.50.
Chris, I will be away for two months starting in mid-January and can take only one guitar so I need a humid place to store my D-35. Do you provide guitar storage at a monthly rate?
Thank very much.
Sure EJ. I don’t usually charge good customers anything for storage so long as it is only one or two guitars
Hi, I have a Crate VFX 5112 that got left out in the rain and it won’t even turn on. How much would it cost to look at it and see what’s wrong with it? And then to possibly get new electronics, speaker, etc.?
Troy,
It usually runs about $45-75 to diagnose and that cost is applied to the repair. The speakers can range in cost from about $60-125 depending on what you want.
You guys changed the p90s out in my 60s tribute les Paul a couple weeks ago. They sound great. Also changed some other things to match the black pickups but the don’t make a black pick guard that fits p90s. Can this be made and at what price?
Should be able to make you a black one. Hand made guard like that should run about $75. I can look into getting one pre-made from WD or something. That is usually less expensive
Hi i have a small amp Crate mx15r. The tip of a 1/4 guitar cable got stuck in the input jack and in my effort to take it out i messed up the input jack. So i wanted to know if it’s possible to just replace the input jack and how much it would cost? I’m trying to see if it’s worth repairing it or just buying a new amp.
It’s probably worth it if the rest of the amp is working well. Depending on the amp, that repair is usually $25-45 and the jacks are about $8
Hi- I have a Charvel Model 4 (Japanese) that features three Jackson pickups. Each of the pickups is activated with its own mini toggle switch. These switches are a bit fragile, and the one for the middle pickup broke. The replacement switch I purchased online is an exact match cosmetically, but it is a double-pole switch, while the originals on this guitar are single-pole. My guitar tech tells me that he can’t use the double pole in combination with the single-pole switches. I don’t have a big problem with buying two more double-pole switches, but is this really necessary?
thank you
Gene,
I am not sure why he would say he can’t use the double pole switch as long as it is a double throw On-On switch. The poles are isolated from each other and only work together if you run a jumper wire between them. Let you tech know he can just use one side of the switch as if it were a single pole and that should work perfectly (unless there is some issue with the size of the switch, which I don’t think there is). Let me know how it turns out!
I was just wondering how much it would cost to mod my Behringer Vintager AC112 to have an external speaker jack, and still use the internal speaker? Thanks.
The amplifier guys say it should be around $115, but they really need to see the amp to make sure there is proper room.
Hey Chris and team!
Someone broke the instrument input jack on my GK MB150S bass amp (cable won’t stay plugged in).
What’s the charge to assess and provide a repair quote?
Marcus,
It usually runs between $45 and $75 to replace the input jack on an amp like that. If you have any questions, you can use my direct email if you like. Thirdcoastguitar@gmail.com
I recently purchased a ’66 Fender Bassman Blackface Guitar Amplifier (head and cab), and I noticed that it’s been giving some feedback noise. Although it is not a loud or overwhelming feature of the amp, I’m interested to know if anything could be done for the amp to reduce this noise. I’ve read up Fender amps, and most people say that feedback is a quality attributed to almost all of them. I’ve also gotten some suggestions to clean the pots, reground the amp, or bias the amp–all of which I have no idea on how to do. In any case, I’d be really grateful if you good give your impression on the situation. Thanks.
Oscar,
That is a super cool amp. It can be a few things. You may have a microphonic tube, the tube sockets could be a little loose, or one of another 10 things on an old tube amp. best thing would be to bring it in and let us look over it and give you a diagnosis.
